Designing the Human-Centric City
Drawing on some of Heatherwick Studio’s most recent work, explore how thoughtful design can create context-driven, human-centric places that encourage people to experience their urban environment in new ways. Demonstrating how urban interventions can unlock a neighborhood’s potential, Mat Cash will present the design development behind projects including London’s Coal Drops Yard, Cape Town’s Zeitz MOCAA, Shanghai’s 1000 Trees, and New York’s Vessel.
As a Group Leader, Mat Cash currently oversees a portfolio of projects in the UK, Japan, Singapore and the USA. His projects include a major new residential tower in Singapore, a Maggie’s cancer care center in the UK, a new public space in New York, Pier55. His team recently completed a multi-award winning landmark cultural museum in Cape Town, Zeitz MOCAA.
The talk will be followed by the announcement of the results of the 2019 Kaplicky Internship competition for architecture students and recent graduates. The winner will receive an internship at the Heatherwick Studio in London. The Kaplicky Internship competition is organized by the Bakala Foundation in collaboration with the London Design Museum and the Kaplicky Centre Foundation.
The event will be held in English. Admission free, pre-registration required.
